Hat trick of Wins for Junior Team

Wakefield Tomiki Aikido Club Junior Team continue to dominate the junior aikido scene with a third successive club win at the Junior Open Championships (North) on 12th April 2008.

The club was particularly dominant in the under 8s winning 2 golds and a silver, the under 12s winning 3 golds and 2 bronze and the under 16s winning 4 golds and a silver.

They also came away with the under 8s, under 12s and under 16s team trophies.

individual trophy for the second time and Brandon Murphy won the best individual trophy in the under 14s category in his first competition, despite not quite managing to secure a medal.

Luke Fountain and Daniel Barker overcame the odds to win a silver medal in the under 16s open kata, competing against 14 and 15 year olds. A remarkable achievement considering that they are both only 11 years old! They were only beaten to the gold by club captain Jade Barraclough and her Uke, Kim Dalton.

Club captain Jade Barraclough (pictured right) collected the Club Trophy on behalf of the club in this, her last junior competition before she moves up to senior level.

As usual the conduct and sportsmanship displayed throughout the day was exemplary and a credit to all the clubs that took part in the competition.

The clubs success can be put down to the continuing commitment of the coaching staff and the effort of all the junior members, who all managed to raise their game for the competition.

Bradford Aikido club finished in second place and Leeds in third.
